HAZOP Study & Risk Analysis for HSE Specialists

HAZOP Study and Risk Analysis are ideal for engineers having existing knowledge related to hazard and operability study, who wish to update their knowledge in hazard and risk analysis.

The purpose of Hazard and Operability study is to review a system or plant in a structured manner to analyse whether deviations from the design intent can create undesirable consequence. This method can be followed as a team process or continuous process and can be endorsed as written procedures.

The HAZOP team lists the potential causes and consequences to ensure the safety against the deviation along with the existing safeguards. If any inadequate measures are existing for a credible deviation, the team will suggest and implement suitable actions to minimize the risks.

This program will be conducted for 2hrs. session on a period of 2 days training where candidates without any previous knowledge on hazard and operability can also learn the HAZOP Study and Risk Analysis quickly. The course material is designed on basis of real-time examples of the oil and gas industry, one of them being Automated Continuous Processes.

Course Objectives:

  • Apply advanced process HAZOP and risk assessment techniques
  • Discuss mechanics of dispersion, fire, explosion and toxic releases
  • Explain the concept of Quantified Risk Assessment ‘QRA’ and the HAZOP study methodology
  • Practice HAZOP team leadership
  • Understand the concepts of risk assessment and risk management
  • Understand the estimation and evaluation of risks – qualitative, semi-quantitative and quantified risks
  • Apply techniques for hazard identification and analysis – checklists, risk profiling, HAZOP, FMEA and task-based risk assessment
  • Apply cause-consequences analysis – the role of fault trees and event trees in accident prevention
  • Understand HAZOP studies their benefits and their short comings
  • Understand the requirements of a team leader or facilitator, scribe and team members during HAZOP studies
  • Facilitate a HAZOP study
